Cathy Ann: Art & Mind

My love of art began in my childhood home in Port Chester, New York, where I spent hours watching my father paint and draw. Inspired by his talent and encouragement, I began drawing faces from magazine covers and filling my bedroom with my earliest artwork.
When I was sixteen, I drew a leopard cub directly on my bedroom wall using a number two pencil. That drawing became an important turning point. Friends and relatives began bringing me leftover paint, and I experimented freely with color, materials, and technique. My parents loved the leopard so much that they eventually created an entire jungle scene around it.
I later completed a three-year fine art program at the Propersi School of Art in Greenwich, Connecticut, where I received individual instruction and explored a variety of artistic mediums. I also studied life drawing and portrait painting at the Riley League of Artists in White Plains alongside my father.
Art remained an important part of my life while I raised and homeschooled my three children. As they grew, I returned more fully to my own creative work. After moving to Columbus, I found a welcoming arts community where I have exhibited my work, continued developing my skills, and created commissioned artwork for clients.
I am especially drawn to portraits of people and animals. My goal is to capture more than physical likeness. I look for personality, emotion, and the inner qualities revealed through the eyes and expression.
Over time, I also became deeply interested in the connection between creativity, health, and well-being. With a background in health and nutrition and certification as a Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, I understand how creativity, mindful living, and self-expression can support the whole person. Creating art has always helped me become present, process emotions, and enter a meditative state of flow.
This understanding inspired me to explore transformative art: the idea that the creative process can help us reconnect with ourselves, shift our perspective, and experience personal growth. Art does not have to be perfect or complicated to be meaningful. Sometimes, simply making something with our hands can open the door to joy, confidence, healing, and renewed energy.
I especially love sharing that experience with others through paint parties. Cathy’s Party and Paint offers a relaxed, welcoming environment where people can gather, laugh, connect, and create their own artwork—regardless of their previous experience. My goal is not only to teach painting, but also to help people discover the joy and freedom that come from expressing themselves creatively.
Through Cathy’s Party and Paint, Transformative Art, and Cathy Ann’s Art, I offer different ways to experience creativity, meaningful connection, personal expression, and the simple joy of making something with your own hands.
I believe creativity belongs to everyone. Sometimes, it only needs a little encouragement and a welcoming place to bloom.
